What is a Nebulizer?
By Ken Wilssens

A nebulizer is a piece of equipment used by the medical profession in order to administer certain forms of medication to those people suffering from particular diseases in a liquid mist form to their airways. Such equipment is often used for the treatment of such diseases as asthma, cystic fibrosis as well as other forms of respiratory diseases.

Each nebulizer such as the CompMist Compressor Nebulizer allows air or oxygen to be pumped through a cylinder of medication in liquid form and then turns this into a mist. Once it has been turned into mist it can then be inhaled by the person to help to alleviate the symptoms they are feeling from say an asthma attack or episode. By being made in to mist the medication is therefore able to enter the airways and gain access to a person’s lungs much more quickly and so alleviate the symptoms much more effectively.

Although most doctors will prefer to prescribe an inhaler to their patient in order to treat the symptoms as they are actually a lot cheaper as well as being a lot smaller, they are actually less potent and there is the risk of someone suffering from sort of side effects from the medication are greatly reduced. However in most cases a nebulizer will often only used by a doctor in cases where a persons attacks have become more severe or their respiratory disease has become much worse.

But today there are more compact nebulizers which use ultrasonic technology available today. This will then use a vibrating micro mesh within side the machine which provides a much finer vapor than other models previously produced and so are proving to be more effective in treating the conditions. However unfortunately some of these nebulizers can be quite expensive and certainly if your medical insurance does not cover you for such equipment then it may be something you really need to consider seriously with regard to the cost implications and would it be any more effective in helping to treat the symptoms compared to what method you are using currently. Certainly if you would like to learn more about what a nebulizer is and how it works plus the different makes and models that are now available there are plenty of sites where this information is openly available to you.
