Will my friend still have an asthma attack if my mum smokes outside?

July 15th, 2010 by admin

My friend is coming to stay over and she has asthma. My mum smokes and my friend is worried she will have an asthma attack. If my mum smokes outside for 2 weeks before hand is there a chance that she can still have an asthma attack? Please help i want my friend to be safe?

i dont think so, cuz i have asthma and it doesnt hurt me if im right beside a smoker but it does make me cough a little so i try to avoid that. but if they are outside then she should be good, but if it’s the really bad kind of asthma then she needs to bring her inhaler (if she has one) just in case… :)

If smoke is the issue for her, then you guys need to air it out good and your mom HAS to smoke outside.

SHE COULD HAVE AN ASTHMA ATTACK EVEN IF NOBODY SMOKE INSIDE OR OUT, SO MANY THINGS CAN CAUSE AN ATTACK. I SMOKE AND I HAVE ASTHMA BUT RABBIT FUR, DUST,POLLEN AND GRASS TRIGGERS MY ATTACKS. BUT HER SMOKING OUTSIDE WOULD BE VERY CONSIDERATE FOR YOUR FRIENDS HEALTH.

If your Mother currently smokes in the house, then the smoke has almost definitely permeated the interior, such as the sofa, curtains, linens, etc. It often leaves a visible staining on the walls and other materials in the house. If smoke is a trigger for your friends asthma then she will likely have an asthma attack. If her asthma is controlled, she should be able to use preventative measures beforehand to reduce the risk. She will definitely need to bring her nebulizer.

Further, your Mother should NOT smoke in the house. By smoking in your home she is risking the possibility that you and other members of your home will become ill from the effects of second hand smoke. The effects of second hand smoke may take years to surface.
